Box Office Operators

Position Description

The Millwald Theatre is seeking customer service-driven individuals to become part of our Box Office team. Box Office Operators will work closely with our team to process ticket sales, check in guests, provide excellent customer service, and ensure all guests have a positive experience at the historic Millwald Theatre. The detail-oriented and customer service-focused position requires excellent organizational skills, a professional and friendly demeanor, and the ability to maintain focus during moments of chaos and excitement. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in event ticketing, guest relations, a strong understanding of basic math skills, and the ability to generate sales reports as needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for communicating information regarding the event, including seating options, price structures, and other details to help guests select the best event ticket
  • Remain up to date and knowledgeable of current events at the Millwald to help guide customer buying experience in person, over the phone, or online
  • Sell tickets throughout the week in the theatre
  • Collect tickets on show nights
  • Provide tours to theatre patrons as needed
  • Report sales numbers and figures to the Director/Manager on duty

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Millwald Theatre is seeking individuals with experience working in the performing arts ticketing or related hospitality industries. Candidates must be proactive, relationship-oriented, and organized, and should feel comfortable juggling multiple projects in a start-up environment.  

  • Box Office, Front of House (hospitality), or sales office experience
  • Knowledge of point of sale and ticketing software and hardware
  • Willingness to learn how to build out events in our ticketing software with a firm grasp of basic data entry skills
  • Ability to work frequent nights and weekends and unconventional hours
  • Willingness to accept other duties as assigned
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Must work well with other team members and volunteer staff
  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Hiring Rate: $12-15 an hour based on experience

 

About the Millwald

The renovation of the historic 1928 Millwald Theatre building, 205 Main Street, downtown Wytheville, VA, will feature a 500-seat performance space and 7,500 sq. ft. of support facilities including two education spaces, a patron lounge, offices, and facilities to accommodate professional touring artists.  Owned and operated by a nonprofit organization, The Millwald will present a year-round schedule of events, education, and engagement opportunities for the region.
